“MARY”
I wasn’t sure how to address my acts of compulsive self-harm that began my sophomore year of high school. Nor how I felt like a product of my genetics as a child of someone who struggles with drug-addiction. I felt broken and desperately wanted to speak about it, and this was my first attempt at that. Mind, you during this time, I was rapid cycling from undiagnosed Bipolar Disorder among other mental health struggles. So I understand if the song doesn’t make the most sense. Just like with any song on my website/songs that I share, I am not looking for critiques or suggestions. Especially this song. If you would like to provide healthy, constructive critique and support to me and others in the local Sacramento area, you’re welcome to come to the Sac Song Writer Circle. If you would like to support our efforts to create a recurring showcase, you’re welcome to contact me directly as well.
Oh Mary, Mary
oh
Seems to be affecting you
Do you need a redo?
And Mary, Mary, oh
Addictions getting stronger
Girl, mutilations, die hard
She tries
Smashing away the disguises
She tries
to bring down her lies
But yet she sees the drink
And she knows she won’t forget
It brings her to a world where the
Boys don’t taste like—
Oh Mary, Mary
oh
Seems to be affecting you
Do you need a redo?
And Mary, Mary, oh
Addictions getting stronger
Girl, mutilations, die hard
She knows
Where this is all going
She knows
Why she just can’t lie
Should she let go
It’s all she’s worth, all she knows
Should she let it go?
It’s all she’s worth—it’s worth a show
Oh if she could live (again)
She’d sacrifice
The rest of her lamb
Oh Mary, Mary
oh
Seems to be affecting you
Do you need a redo?
And Mary, Mary, oh
Addictions getting stronger
Girl, mutilations, die hard
